The biggest and 1st indigenous Steel Plant of India was set up with Russian Collaboration at Bokaro in Year 1965. The makers of the Steel Plant not only visualised a massive and modern Steel Plant, but also planned a beautiful well laid out city with Schools, Hospitals, Parks, Market, & other requirements of the modern city.
Two notable persons I remember, who have passed out from Bokaro Steel City schools are Mrs. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson, State Bank of India & Mr. Prakash Jha noted film director.
Of late, the requirement of college education, especially girl education was strongly felt as many employees & displaced poor did not want to send their wards too far away places due to socio-economic conditions.
BOKARO MAHILA COLLEGE owes its origin to SAIL, BSL. Bokaro Mahila College was established on 29th March 1976 to impart higher education to girls of Bokaro Steel City, Poor & Tribal girls and nearby villages.
In the beginning, the College was opened with small group of Teachers and Students strength having teaching up to Intermediate Standard.
Gradually, the teachers and students strength arose and teaching up to graduation with Hons. In all the three faculties i.e. Science, Arts & Commerce started functioning here.
The College is a permanently affiliated institution of Vinoba Bhave University and registered under 2(f) & 12(b) provisional of U. G. C.
